The fourth General Assembly meeting of the MedBioinformatics project took place in Copenhagen on June 25th 2016. This short meeting was focused mainly on sustainability and business models, with an initial part where the results of a questionnaire passed to the tool developers in the consortium were presented. The questionnaire addressed aspects such as main features of each of the tools, profiling of users, channels to reach them, current strategies for protecting /exploiting the tools, and analysis of their respective markets. The second part was a round table that counted with 3 guest speakers: Gerhard Ecker (the OpenPhacts Foundation), Niklas Blomberg (Elixir), and José Luis Oliveira (BMD Software). All three presented different business models around knowledge-based software/services in the “bio” field as a way of learning from different experiences in the commercialisation/sustainability roadmap.
Furthermore, a brief update of the work performed during the last months was given by the different work package leaders.
Next face-to-face meeting will take place in Barcelona on June 20-21 2016.
